Calle Larga
The Calle Larga project was a townhome in need of cosmetic updating.  Meaning there were'nt any structural issues or requirements to make the house livable.  It just required the removal of full length mirrors off of the living room wall, the pea green kitchen cabinets with multi-colored appliances, the different styles of carpeting in all the rooms (even the bathrooms), and in the office/third bedroom a wetbar in the closet and sliding glass door to the courtyard.

The plan was to give the interior a contemporary look while not being too uncomfortable with straight lines and edges.  The owner had been interested in a Craftsman style, but the exterior of the townhome was a Spanish-stucco style.  Thus contemporary would match best with the outside while meeting the homeowner's dream.

The interior floorplan on the townhome also needed some improvements.  The kitchen was walled off from the living room and dining room and the owner wanted to open the space.  The upstairs bathrooms were both chopped up in their layout and not very functional.

The final results were an open, half wall between the kitchen and living-dining room.  In the half wall we were able to pick up countertop and some cabinet space.  As well the countertop was extended along the back wall which added more storage space and a pantry.    The master bathroom was reconfigured to have a 7' x 4' walk in steam shower with overhead rainhead, side mount spray jets and a spray hand wand.  A motorized skylight was added to help with ventihilation from the steam shower.  The other upstairs bathroom was reconfigured to add a bathtub and extra closet space.  Radiant floor heating was put under the tile in these bathrooms to provide a warm surface no matter what time of year or temperature outside.  The downstairs bathroom was given a frameless shower and pendant lighting.

The wetbar and sliding glass door were removed, replaced by a regular closet and a 4' x 6' window.  Now the room could be utilized as a guest bedroom.  All the carpeting was removed and replaced only in the stairs/hallway and upstairs bedrooms.  The downstairs was covered with an engineered oak floor that looked just like real wood planks.  The engineered floor is real wood, but 3/4 of the material is plywood underneath with the real oak comprising the remaining 1/4 for the top.
